颁奖仪式在现场乐队演奏《花月杀手》的配乐中拉开帷幕。维姆·文德斯为他颁奖，称赞他是“电影之王”，全场响起经久不息的掌声。斯科塞斯在获奖感言中分享了自己对于影像、电影的理解：“文字有文字的价值，但影像更直观地告诉人们：什么是人？我们从何而来？它也能让我们对过去犯下的错误保持警醒。”“我很荣幸能够在职业生涯里一直进行这样的对话，我还想一直拍下去，希望过几年与大家再见。”
